Congressional Harvest
Inside the Mountain November 20, 2007
Arise, cry aloud in the night At the beginning of the night watches; Pour out your heart like water Before the presence of the Lord; Lift up your hands to Him For the life of your little ones (Lamentations 2:19).
After Congress honored National Bible Week
and passed a typical year-end flurry of legislation (see below)
in which it began sending appropriations bills to the President,
it adjourned
for Thanksgiving.
A few of these bills have been signed into law.
Some have begun to look back at the first year in control for the new majority.
Not to be missed in all of that is the record success of the minority shaping policy with the motion to recommit.
The minority has not only maximized its few opportunities for legislative input, but it has also defended these minority rights from several attacks.
While Congress had originally planned to be done for the year by now, there is still much left to do including finishing the appropriations bills and unfinished conference reports such as the Head Start Reauthorization.
How the year finishes out is still very much a work in progress.
- Praise the Lord for the great things he has done.
- Confess the many sins of our nation, and thank God for his mercy.
- Pray that members of Congress would have a blessed time with their families this week, and return refreshed and ready to finish well in December.
Let him that is taught in the word communicate unto him that teacheth in all good things. Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap. For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting. And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not. As we have therefore opportunity, let us do good unto all men, especially unto them who are of the household of faith (Galatians 6:6-10).
Therefore, since we have so great a cloud of witnesses surrounding us, let us also lay aside every encumbrance and the sin which so easily entangles us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God (Hebrews 12:1-2).

Legislation Introduced
H.R. 4133: To amend title X of the Public Health Service Act to prohibit family planning grants from being awarded to any entity that performs abortions, and for other purposes.
FRC: Planned Parenthood receives more than a third of its nearly $1 billion annual budget from government grants and contracts.
Rep. Pence says, "It's time that the American people know that the nation's biggest abortion provider is also the largest recipient of Title X dollars."
Government funding offsets operating costs and frees up money to promote and provide abortions.
Recent investigations have uncovered evidence that Planned Parenthood employees have falsely reported information to the authorities and failed to report cases of sexual abuse and statutory rape.

- Pray for confirmation of the President's judicial nominees.
And I will make justice the measuring line, And righteousness the level; Then hail shall sweep away the refuge of lies, And the waters shall overflow the secret place (Isaiah 28:17).
